I finally caught my first fish! He was a fairly small brown trout caught on the Owens by means of a fly rod and a willing cricket (well maybe not that willing).
Despite his size, he tasted pretty good pan-fried in garlic, olive oil and chilies. So we called it a success and vowed to catch a few bigger ones next time (to offset the $40 fishing license!)
Gutting the fish turned out not to be too bad (with help from Marsha, our Bishop landlady and experienced fish executioner). The worst part of the whole experience was breaking the poor thing’s neck by sticking your thumb in his mouth and snapping his neck backwards. Hardly seems like the most humane approach??
